WUTANG’S RAEKWON To Open Newark Cannabis Dispensary With Onsite Smoking

NEWARK, NJ — Wu-Tang Clan hip-hop artist “Raekwon” is making a major investment in the city’s Four Corners Historic District, opening Newark’s first cannabis lounge that allows on-site consumption and use of marijuana products.
The city Landmark and Historic Preservation Commission approved the “Hashtoria” cannabis lounge’s application and architectural design for 799-805 Broad St. earlier this month.
Wu-Tang’s Raekwon – whose real name is Corey Woods, 53, and is also known as “Raekwon The Chef” – is co-founder of the Hashtoria brand and lounges.
Newark’s Hashtoria, set to open some time in April, would be its fourth location. The other three lounges are in Oregon, where the company is based.
Plans prepared by RHG Architecture Design, of Montclair, show the circa-1900s downtown structures getting fresh brick facades, new windows to display community artwork, and enhancements to make the buildings more welcoming inside and out.
New Jersey’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission recently approved on-site cannabis consumption and use at certain licensed locations where it is sold.
That means at Hashtoria smoking marijuana or consuming marijuana edibles – gummies, hard candy, baked goods or beverages – will be permissible on-site.
The Grammy-nominated Wu-Tang Clan is based in Staten Island, but has a special connection to Newark. It’s filmed much of its biopic series “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” now in its third season on Hulu, in downtown Newark and the South Ward.
