There’s a fact that Democrats would rather ignore: it wasn’t the so-called progressive party that abolished slavery—it was the Republicans. It was the GOP that championed the 13th Amendment, passed by a Republican-led Congress and signed into law by Abraham Lincoln, ensuring a new beginning for American Freedmen.

Today, the fight for reparations for their descendants has taken center stage. The question is, who will seize this historic moment? The Democrats, with their hollow promises, have failed repeatedly. They’ve shown they aren’t up to the task. Democrats, you’re fired.

The Democrats’ broken promises have gone on for generations. Year after year, they tout their commitment to racial equity, yet they consistently come up short on the one measure that could actually address the legacy of slavery: reparations. Despite endless campaign rhetoric, when it comes time to act, they always have a reason to postpone.

Their delays and half-measures show one thing clearly: Democrats lack both the courage and commitment to repair what remains a fundamental injustice. They’ve been given countless chances to act, and they’ve failed. For American Freedmen, the answer is clear—Democrats, you’re fired!

 

Meanwhile, Republicans, the party that once stood at the forefront of abolition, now have a chance to redeem that legacy. While Abraham Lincoln’s personal views on race were complex, his political courage—issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, signing the 13th Amendment—was undeniable.

Republicans stood for justice then, and they can again. Now is the moment for the GOP to reclaim its position as the party that confronts moral wrongs and provides real solutions.

And let’s not forget the role American Freedmen have played in Donald Trump’s journey before his political career. Through his businesses, the American Freedmen community has contributed countless dollars to his success, from his real estate ventures to his entertainment brands.

If Trump recognizes this historical moment, he could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history—one who truly corrected America’s foundational wrong. This moment is an opportunity for him to honor the debt owed, not just in words, but through action.

The legislation is already in place, rooted in the 13th Amendment. Reparations aren’t a new issue, nor a left or right issue—they are an American issue, one grounded in moral and legal obligations. If Donald Trump and the Republicans seize this opportunity, they could make history.
