Replacing Jalen Reagor: Who The Eagles Can, Could Or Might Have Got
|
Repost: Updated Sep 1st 2022
In light of the recent Phila. Eagles Jalen Reagor Trade to The Vikings, many Philadelphia asxwell as NFL Fans are asking who would be a possible replacement.
1. Mike Williams
Update: It turns out Mike Williams did not get to free agency. It was thought that the Los Angeles Chargers wideout could be franchise tagged ahead of the deadline, but the two sides agreed to a three-year, $60 million contract.Mar 15,
From the standpoint of just evaluating his gifts for playing the wide receiver position at the NFL level, let’s just put things this way. Williams is that bully that we were told JJ Arcega-Whiteside could wind up being.
But as of this free agency update he’s now out of the equation.
2. William Fuller.
Update: The one-year, $10.6 million contract Will Fuller signed with the Miami Dolphins this past offseason did not go according to plan for any party involved. Fuller battled through injuries – as he often does- and finished the season with just four catches for 26 yards.
Mention the name Will Fuller around a Philadelphia Eagles fan and they might mistakenly think that you’re discussing defensive end William Fuller, one of the greatest free-agent acquisitions that Philly ever made at the defensive end position.
Forget Jevon Kearse, and we don’t mean that disrespectfully, but if anyone deserved to be called ‘The Freak’, it was William.
From 1994 to 1996, Fuller made the Pro Bowl at the end of every season. He recorded 236 total tackles, 12 forced fumbles, and 36.5 sacks (those numbers include three playoff games) in an Eagles.
Many moons later, there’s another Will Fuller that’s making a name for himself around the NFL, and like the aforementioned defensive end, he’s someone the City of Brotherly Love knows well.
Before being taken 21st-overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, Will Fuller V was a standout in Philly at Roman Catholic High School. He signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on March 20th of 2021, broke his thumb in Week 4, and was placed on the team’s IR (injured reserve) on October 6th.
The Dolphins have yet to ink the six-foot-one, 184-pound wide receiver to a new extension, so if the Eagles are indeed looking for help at wide receiver by the time the free-agency frenzy arrives in 2022, they might want to go shopping in South Beach.
3. Allen Robinson is the Eagles’ best option outside of Davante Adams.
Update: Allen Robinson signed with the Los Angeles Rams on a three-year, $46.5 million deal, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The deal also includes $30.7 million fully guaranteed, Pelissero added. So technically hes out of the equation but heres a look at might have been.
For whatever reason, it just feels like Allen Robinson is a ten-year veteran with ten Pro Bowls under his belt.
We’re not calling the guy old. He’s only 28 years old and won’t turn 29 until next August, but he has been one of the NFL’s better receivers for the better part of the past seven seasons. He just needs consistent play from the quarterbacks he’s been forced to partner with.
At just under 100 games at the time of this story being written and published, Robinson is the owner of a 6,000-yards receiving and 40-touchdown resume, but he’s only been to one Pro Bowl. Let’s just ease your mind though. That isn’t because he’s done something wrong. He has all of the skills to put up elite numbers on a year-in and year-out basis.
Imagining him in the Eagles’ offensive lineup with DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell, and Dallas Goedert is enough to make the mouth water.
