NFL Analysts Are All-In On Eagles: ‘The Best Team In Football’
|
That’s what NBC Sports NFL analysts think about the Philadelphia Eagles, who improved to 12-1 and clinched a playoff spot with Sunday’s 48-22 win over the New York Giants.
Hall of Famer Tony Dungy: “What I like about them is they’re doing it in all areas. They’re scoring points, they’re moving the ball, but that defense is applying pressure, getting sacks, getting takeaways. They played a complete game, and they might be the best team in football.”
Former Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett: “The best teams are able to win in different ways. Philadelphia has shown us that all year long. What I love most about them now though is they have a championship mentality.”
NFL insider Peter King: “The Eagles are the best team in football with a month left in the regular season. … They’re explosive in the run and pass games. They’ve got a quarterback playing with Mahomes-like confidence. They’ve got the best offensive line in the game. … On the other side, they’ve got the best pass defense in football, they’re second in yards allowed, and they’ve allowed less than 20 points in eight games. I mean, what’s not to like?”
King also ranked the top 10 contenders for NFL MVP and sitting atop the list was Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Jalen Hurts overtakes Patrick Mahomes by a smidge. The Eagles are football’s best team. Hurts has turned it over five times in the 12-1 start, while accounting for 32 touchdowns—22 passing, 10 rushing. Eagles are scoring 41 a game since Thanksgiving, and Hurts is in the middle of all of it.
According to Eagles PR, “Hurts (24 years, 126 days) is the second youngest QB to start 12-1 or better since the 1970 merger, behind Dan Marino in 1984 (23 years, 72 days).”
And that’s not all:
Hurts completed 21-of-31 (67.7%) attempts for 217 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs and a 109.2 passer rating while adding 77 yards and 2 TDs on 7 rushing attempts (4 total TDs).
For the second consecutive season, Hurts tied the franchise QB record for rushing TDs in a season. He is the first QB in NFL history to post 10+ rushing TDs in back-to-back years and just the second QB with multiple 10+ rushing TD seasons, joining Cam Newton (3 times – 14 in 2011; 10 in 2015; 12 in 2020).
In addition, Hurts is just the third player in Eagles history to total 10+ rushing TDs in consecutive seasons, joining Ricky Watters (1995-96) and Steve Van Buren (1947-49).
