Leroy The Barber: I Was The 1st To Bring Front Fade Cuts To The Hood.

Located in the heart of West Philadelphia, On 41st & Lancaster Avenue beside an Asian shoe cobbler,

Leroy’s Barbershop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

is a West Philly mainstay. Along with the typical urban barbershop atmosphere, which is basically the guys hangout or the men’s club,

Leroy’s slightly differs as it fosters in a more all inclusive environment where everyone from hood dudes, smooth o.g’s, catholic school kids, varsity high school players, rappers, musicians to purple haired female studs are in the mix.

As usual Leroy is at the forefront of this, an energetic passionate guy whose conversation is a mixture of humor & history. And it was the history part that totally threw me off guard when I casually asked Leroy..

“Hey! Who invented the front fade”?

To my surprise Leroy immediately answered….

“I did! Leroy The Barber that’s who”?

I thought he was playing around but he quickly doubled down and  confidently stated – “it was Back in The 90’s At Mr Hair aka (Booboos) 49th & Baltimore”! “Hell yea I brought the front fade to Philly Barber chairs while everybody & they Momma was focused on the back fade”.

When asked how he came about this he replied,  “it was just a natural extension of the cut, haircutting is part art & science, it’s shapes & angles & a lil common sense”. “I’m pretty sure other barbers have done this in the past but honestly Abe I can’t remember anyone doing it before me”.

Retail Store Inside Of The Barbershop:

“Just like there are a lot of barbershops that have makeshift retail stores inside of them, as an O.G I was definitely one of the 1st to bring that element to a barbershop.  As you can see I have everything from womens hair products to a full out line of men’s clothing”.

This is true as in the past,  I definitely purchased a high qaulity men’s 2x button up dress shirt with dark pink pinstripes, ultimately saving me a trip to Macy’s.

Back To The Front Fade:

Mens Front Fade

Leroy’s not a bullsh*ter & he’s a man of integrity, but this claim of inventing the front fade is a claim that’s sure to start verbal controversy & debates in barbershops all over Philadelphia.

I asked my own personal barber of 14 years, Aziz of  Unify Barber Parlor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if  he thought Leroys claim was true, to which he answered- “Hey If Lee said it I’m ridin wit it”!

My Personal Opinion:

I believe there are a lot of  Philly Barbershops that will lovingly & passionately disagree & debate Lee’s Bold Claim!

edit: [ It’s Philly, Some of em aint gonna be so lovin, In other words— they gone straight come for bul neck! 😂 ]

Here Are The Top 4

1. New Identity Barbershop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2. Bob Turners Hair Gallery ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3. Philly Cuts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4. Major League Cuts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In Conclusion:

I honestly hope this will lead to a big discussion within the Philadelphia Barber scene, regarding who did what when & where. Philadelphia is a big barbershop town where the average guy easily spends $750 to $1000 a year on haircuts.

As far as the debate over Leroy bringing  The Front Fade Haircut to Philly: the ‘Youngins’ are gonna come out swinging hard,  but in the end The O.G’S are gonna back up Leroys claim & Lee’s gonna win!

But!…..

Lee’s gonna celebrate & punish us all by hitting his classic

‘Hip Hop To The Barbershop’ Rap! 🎵

And I’m gonna cry, cause I’m tired of hearing that corny ass 1980 Kurtis Blow, Sugarhill soundin outdated backyard cookout 3rd rate talent show soundin trash!

Lee, if you reading this, you my mans & all but you need ta update that rap bruh! 😂
