LeBron James To Warriors Trade Evaluated As Lakers Make Luka Doncic Future Of Team

LeBron James has decided to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers beyond Thursday’s trade deadline, even after the team blindsided him with a blockbuster deal that sent one of his favorite teammates, Anthony Davis, to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic. A source familiar with James’ plans confirmed that the four-time MVP remains committed to finishing his career in Los Angeles despite his initial surprise at the trade.

The Lakers‘ front office executed the deal without informing James beforehand, which was completely different than the prior collaborative approach to building the roster that helped bring Davis to LA in 2019. James was reportedly out to dinner with his family when news of the trade broke, leaving him just as shocked as the rest of the league.

Despite being caught off guard, sources confirmed that James still sees the Lakers as his long-term home. Outside of a no-trade clause, the Golden State Warriors reportedly tried to acquire James, hoping to pair him with Stephen Curry in what would have been one of the most explosive duos in NBA history.

“I am a Laker, and I’m happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way,” James said at the time. “But I don’t have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I’ll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It’s a great organization, so many greats. But we’ll see.”

After the veteran duo helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in August, hoop fans wondered if their synergy could re-connect on an NBA court. “I was super excited to be able to finally team up with him in a win-or-die type atmosphere,” James said after winning a Gold medal.

“That’s what it was, being a part of the Olympics. It was everything that I dreamed of and aspired to want, to be a part of that team, along with Steph. Great memories. Something that I’ll remember from my basketball career for the rest of my life, for sure.”
