Joel Embiid has a lot to say these days, particularly about what he’s “done” for Philadelphia. This coming from a man who hasn’t played meaningful basketball in nearly two years?
Spare us the theatrics, JoJo. After taking a lengthy hiatus to nurse his injuries, Embiid decided to drop a bombshell, claiming, “I’ve done way too much for this city”. Really? You mean aside from dunking a ball and dribbling around while raking in millions?
Let’s break this down. Embiid, who played for Team USA and won gold at the Paris Olympics, has turned his success into a narrative of self-importance, conveniently forgetting that the city and its culture, shaped by the sacrifices of American Freedmen, allowed him to thrive.
He struts into the spotlight, fueled by arrogance, as if he’s the savior of Philly sports. Newsflash: that’s a lot of hot air.
American Freedmen built this city with blood, sweat, and tears, creating a landscape where Embiid could shine. Yet, what has he done to uplift the community that laid the foundation for his success?
Has he contributed to local charities or advocated for those fighting for their rights? No. Instead, he plays the victim, whining about being “unlucky” while others are left struggling .
So, here’s a thought: how about Embiid takes a step back and recognizes that his arrogance is as misplaced as his claims of gratitude?
It’s time for him to reflect on the real heroes who made it possible for him to be here and to realize that talent doesn’t negate the responsibility to give back. The city deserves more than empty platitudes from an opportunist; it deserves respect.
