Jaylen Brown Backtracks & Announces Exit From Donda Sports
Following his initial comments of support for the mission of Donda Sports, Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown has since backtracked on those remarks and announced his departure from Donda Sports.
“In the past 24 hours, I’ve been able to reflect and better understand how my previous statements lack clarity in expressing my stance against recent insensitive public remarks and actions,” Brown said Tuesday in a statement he released via Twitter.
“For that, I apologize. And in this, I seek to be as clear as possible. I have always, and will always, continue to stand strongly against any antisemitism, hate speech, misrepresentation, and oppressive rhetoric of any kind.
In light of that, after sharing in conversations, I now recognize that there are times when my voice and my position can’t coexist in spaces that don’t correspond with my stance or my values. And, for that reason, I am terminating my association with Donda Sports.”
Kanye West has faced much backlash for making anti-semitic remarks. Because of those remarks, West’s partnerships and brand deals are now being stripped away from him. West founded Donda Sports and got Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown to join the company. Now, Brown has revealed he’s sticking with the company despite comments made by West.
While speaking to the Boston Globe, Brown was asked about his business relationship with Donda Sports. Brown made it clear he doesn’t support the statements made by West. “First, I don’t condone any hurt, harm, or danger toward any group of people or individuals whatsoever,” said the NBA star.
Brown said his focus is on what Donda Sports represents. “The reason why I signed with Donda Sports, it represented education, it represented activism, disruption, it represented single-parent households, and a lot more people are involved in something like that,” Brown said.
The NBA player then said the relationship he has with Kanye is a “sensitive subject” that is being “evaluated.” He continued, “He’s someone who’s obviously dealing with a lot of adversity that’s in front of him right now, and everybody can see it, and it’s public.”
This comes after CAA and Adidas revealed they were cutting ties with West.
