Eagles Rumors: Lane Johnson to Undergo MRI on Groin/Abdomen Injury After Week 16
|
Saturday did not go according to plan for the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only did they lose to the rival Dallas Cowboys, but right tackle Lane Johnson also suffered a groin and abdomen injury. Tim McManus of ESPN reported Sunday that the veteran will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the setback.
Johnson was not the only Eagles player to go down with an injury during the loss, as cornerback Avonte Maddox and defensive tackle Jordan Davis also exited early. Quarterback Jalen Hurts didn’t even play because of a shoulder injury.
There aren’t many more important players to the Eagles than Johnson.
He has been an anchor for the offensive line since they selected him with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2013 NFL draft, and his resume includes a Super Bowl title, four Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro nod.
The Oklahoma product set a record this season by not allowing a sack in 928 consecutive pass plays. He also has an impressive Pro Football Focus grade of 82 in 2022.
Johnson suffered the injury in the fourth quarter and went into the medical tent before heading to the locker room. Jack Driscoll entered the game and would likely be asked to play right tackle if the starter is sidelined.
Philadelphia’s offense played fairly well given the circumstances of the injuries to Hurts and then Johnson, finishing with 34 points in the 40-34 loss. Gardner Minshew II went 24-of-40 for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding another score on the ground.
The 13-2 Eagles are still just one win away from clinching the No. 1 seed and first-round bye in the NFC and finish the season with games against the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants.
