Eagles’ Defensive Play Caller Exits Game With Foot Injury

Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean left in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots with a foot injury.

He walked slowly into the locker room and was seen with a walking boot on his right foot after the game.

Dean told reporters he was injured trying to make a tackle.

Without Dean on the field, linebackers Zach Cunningham and Christian Elliss were the only two off-ball linebackers available against the Patriots.

Dean, who calls plays for the defense, racked up seven tackles before exiting the game. QB Mac Jones attacked Cunningham and connected with tight end Hunter Henry for a first down on the last drive, but the Eagles made a crucial fourth-down stop.

The 22-year-old Dean was drafted in the third round of the 2022 draft out of Georgia. He had 13 tackles in 2022 in 17 games with no starts.

Dean’s status is something to monitor with the Eagles’ next game approaching Sept. 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.
