Eagles Could Consider Blockbuster Trade For Star Pass-Rusher?

Eagles Could Make Shocking Cut Of T…

The Philadelphia Eagles already have the most lethal pass rush in the NFL. Last season, the Eagles racked up 70 sacks, just two shy of the 1984 Chicago Bears for the NFL record.

But could Philadelphia add yet another star talent to its already deep stable of pass rushers? Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report thinks so.

With Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Chandler Jones expressing a whole lot of displeasure with the Raiders’ front office, Ballentine thinks the Eagles could step in and offer Las Vegas fellow edge rusher Derek Barnett in a straight up swap.

Barnett himself has asked for a trade from Philadelphia, and given how limited his playing time has been in Philly, that does not come as much of a surprise. Barnett’s contract also expires at the end of the season, so at worst, the Raiders would be able to shed some salary.

Jones has yet to play a game for Las Vegas in 2023. It isn’t exactly a surprising turn of events considering that the veteran stated before the season that he no longer wished to play for the franchise.

The 33-year-old signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Raiders in March 2022. His debut season in Las Vegas was disappointing, as Jones tallied just 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at Syracuse, was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Patriots, making the Pro Bowl in his final year with the club in 2015. Jones then moved on to the Arizona Cardinals, where he resided for six seasons. During that time, he made four trips to the Pro Bowl while also earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections.

Jones led the NFL with 17 sacks in 2017.
