Dallas Cowboys Ex Ezekiel Elliott Being Recruited by Eagles Stars
|
The Dallas Cowboys decided to drop Ezekiel Elliott, who could look to make his former team pay by signing with a division rival in the Philadelphia Eagles.
That might be what Zeke wants. It does seem to be what some Eagles standouts want.
Since being released by Dallas, Elliott’s next destination has been widely speculated about. He reportedly has his sights set on three teams: the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and, maybe heartbreakingly to Cowboys Nation, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Elliott’s interest in the “City of Brotherly Love” – first reported by ESPN as his final list of “options” when in fact it appears the three-team list might just be Zeke’s wish list (or even something more innocuous than that) – is being reciprocated by multiple Eagles veterans who have taken to Twitter to recruit him.
Philadelphia offensive lineman Lane Johnson tweeted the eyes emoji in response to reports of Elliott’s interest in joining the organization, while Darius Slay tweeted, “I kno u want to run behind the best Oline.”
The Eagles lost 2022 Pro Bowler Miles Sanders to the Carolina Panthers in free agency and now is arguably lacking in the running backs room. Smallish Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell are back, and oft-injured veteran Rashaad Penny comes over from Seattle.
They obviously don’t have Zeke’s resume. Since entering the league, Elliott has rushed for 8,262 yards; meanwhile, the trio of Penny, Scott, and Gainwell have combined to rush for 3,658 over their careers.
Dallas’ rival working to transform Zeke from heel to hero? A motivated Elliott could help the Eagles capture the NFC for a second consecutive season as they look to hoist the Lombardi in 2024. So far, Eagles management hasn’t pulled the trigger on the idea. But Eagles stars are clamoring for it.
