Andy Reid’s Son, Britt Reid, Sentenced To Three Years In Prison Over Car Crash That Left 5-Year-Old With Serious Brain Injuries

Son of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Britt Reid is headed to prison stemming from a car crash that left a 5-year-old with serious brain injuries.

Back in 2021, a week before the Chiefs played in the Super Bowl LV, Britt Reid was involved in a serious car accident near the team’s practice facility. Reid would admit to officers on the scene that he had a few drinks along with Adderall.

police say Reid’s truck slammed into two vehicles on the side of a highway entrance ramp near Kansas City’s NFL training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium, injuring Ariel and another child inside one of the cars.

Reid is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and had been the team’s outside linebackers coach at the time of the crash. He was initially placed on administrative leave immediately following the crash, but is no longer employed by the team after his contract was not renewed in the days after the crash. He did not travel with the team to Tampa, Florida, for the Feb. 7 Super Bowl, which Kansas City lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Police have said Britt Reid admitted to investigators to having had “two or three drinks” along with prescribed Adderall before the crash.

Last month, Reid pled guilty to the charges against and on Tuesday was officially sented to three years in prison.

The family of the young girl who suffered traumatic brain injuries when Reid crashed into their car, wanted the former Chiefs assistant coach to serve more time due to the fact that the child sustained permanent injuries.

The court also heard a victim impact statement from Ariel’s mother, Felicia Miller, read by the prosecutor. In it, she explained how Ariel’s life is forever changed by that night. She now wears glasses, may need leg braces and is in special education classes because she takes longer to process information.

“On the cold night of February 4, 2021 – one of us was on the side of the road, broken down, trying to get to a minimum-wage job while Britt Reid was at work, preparing to go to the Super Bowl,” wrote Miller. “This is not a game. This is not a Chief’s game. This is our life.”
