Ahead Of Clash vs Eagles, Travis Kelce issues Stern Warning To Chiefs Fans

There are so many lines that can be drawn that connect the dots representing both the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. The most obvious is that they’re the champions of the NFC and AFC respectively and that they will meet in Super Bowl LVII for the right to claim football’s top prize, the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Dig a little deeper and the subplots never end.

John and Jim Harbaugh battled one another in Super Bowl XLVII as coaches, but this is the first time in NFL history that two brothers will meet on opposite sidelines as players. Jason Kelce is the game’s best center and the anchor of Philly’s mighty offensive line. No disrespect to Dallas Goedert and George Kittle, but Travis Kelce is arguably the game’s best tight end.

Jason and Travis are very close. Their inclusion in this one has some referring to February 12th’s game as ‘The Kelce Bowl’.

Others call it ‘The Andy Reid Bowl’ as the Chiefs’ head coach leads his team into battle versus the team he began his head-coaching career leading. As you know, Big Red was with the Birds for 14 NFL seasons.

The game will be played in neutral territory, State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Travis Kelce has a message for Chiefs fans.

Travis Kelce tells Chiefs fans to avoid the temptation of placing his jersey on the Rocky Statue and giving the Eagles added motivation.

Some call it a farce. Others believe there’s some validity to the phrase, but in Eagles lore, there exists something we refer to as ‘the Rocky statue curse’.

For whatever reason, fans of other teams, when they visit Philly for big games, seem to find joy in finding their way to the Italian Stallion’s monument and doing things that are, for lack of a better term…. stupid.

This season, fans of the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers put t-shirts on the rocky statue ahead of big games versus the Birds (the latter two did so during the postseason). In each instance, the game that followed resulted in lopsided Eagles victories.

Who knows what the Vikings contingent was thinking, They should have learned their lesson in 2018 when they, for whatever reason, thought it was wise to convene at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Rocky once ran up the steps in one of the most climactic moments of the franchise, to do that annoying skol chant that they do.

Maybe it’s because his brother is an Eagles legend, but Travis Kelce knows better. He recently sent a warning to Chiefs fans.

During the most recent episode of the New Heights podcast, he urged Chiefs fans to avoid any temptation of bothering Rocky’s statue (fast forward to the 20-minute mark for the audio. His exact words:

Chiefs, do not touch the (expletive) Rocky memorial! Do not do that, and definitely don’t put a number 87 on it!

Rocky Balboa is a fictional character, but honestly, had he been from anywhere other than Philadelphia, he wouldn’t be nearly the same level of character. It’s almost as if he had to be from Philly.

Is there a curse? There can’t be, right? But while you mull that over, it’s probably best to listen to Travis if you’re a fan of another team. Defacing the Rocky statue in any form or fashion won’t be something that Birds fans or the Eagles themselves respond to with kindness.
