5 Reasons The Philadelphia Eagles Will Win Super Bowl LVII
|
The Philadelphia Eagles’ magical season continues Sunday in Glendale, Arizona, when they take on Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
Big Red was unable to win a Super Bowl for the City of Brotherly Love. but he has led the Chiefs to one Super Bowl win and is making his third Super Bowl appearance over the last four seasons.
Philadelphia’s 55-point differential in the playoffs has been nothing short of spectacular (third-best in NFL history), but the Chiefs have the best player in the NFL, quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes and Reid will not make it easy for the Eagles, but Philadelphia will win Super Bowl LVII. Here are five reasons why:

Mahomes and Reid will not make it easy for the Eagles, but Philadelphia will win Super Bowl LVII. Here are 5 reasons why.
5. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith
The best wide receiver duo in the NFL? When you ask that question, you may get a few different answers, but there is no doubt that A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are in the conversation. Brown and Smith combined for 183 receptions, 2,692 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns in the regular season.
The duo has yet to be elite in the playoffs, combining for only 15 catches, 147 yards, and one touchdown in the two games.
The Eagles have not needed to rely on their passing attack but will need to against the Chiefs. This game will likely become a shootout, and the Eagles will win because they have these two special weapons.
4. Secondary
The Philadelphia Eagles secondary doesn’t get enough credit. They have only given up 3,057 yards passing this season, which is No. 1 in the NFL. The 22 touchdowns they have surrendered through the air are good enough for 10th best, and their 17 interceptions are fifth best in the NFL.
Darius Slay leads this group, followed by James Bradberry, an elite offseason signing. These two corners have shut down wide receivers and quarterbacks all year, but the biggest X-factor is C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The versatile defensive back tied for the most interceptions with six during the regular season, even though he missed five games.
Mahomes may be the best quarterback in the NFL, but he is going to have trouble finding easy completions against the Birds’ secondary.
3. Defensive line
There is no debating that the Philadelphia Eagles have an elite defensive line. The Eagles led the NFL with 70 sacks, 15 more than the second-best total. Many critics wondered if the Eagles’ dominant pass rush would carry over into the playoffs, and it has. The Eagles have had eight sacks in two games, and those have been impact plays.
Philadelphia had four players with 11 sacks or more in the regular season (Haason Reddick had 16, Javon Hargrave had 11, Josh Sweat had 11, and Brandon Graham had 11). Their fifth-best pass rusher this year was Fletcher Cox, and the former All-Pro still had seven sacks.
Mahomes is dealing with an ankle injury. Look for the Eagles’ pass rushers to continue to make an impact and make a few plays
2. Jalen Hurts
For many fans, Jalen Hurts may be the No. 1 reason they believe the Eagles will win the Super Bowl. It is hard to argue against what he has done this season, and for that reason, he still is the No. 2 reason the Eagles will win.
Hurts will likely finish second, behind Mahomes, in the MVP voting. Hurts’ breakout season came out of nowhere, well, seemingly out of nowhere if you didn’t read our five reasons Jalen Hurts will have a breakout season in 2022 story.
Hurts had all the tools entering this season to create a masterpiece, and he did just that. He missed two games due to a shoulder injury but still ended with 35 total touchdowns and 4,461 total yards. Hurts averaged over two touchdowns per game and led the Eagles to a 14-1 record when he played. The Eagles were also 0-2 without him, so while the team is very good, Hurts obviously means a lot to them.
Hurts has had an interesting playoff run. It’s clear he is not 100%, but he is still doing what needs to be done to win games. So, while the stats aren’t eye-opening, Hurts’ ability to command and lead the offense has been
1. Offensive line
While Hurts and the defensive line deserve a ton of credit, the Eagles’ offensive line is the No. 1 reason the Eagles will win Super Bowl LVII. There is not a better offensive line in the NFL, and it may not even be close.
It starts with future first-ballot Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce. The former 6th-round pick is the greatest Philadelphia Eagles draft pick of all time, and he continues to show that every game. Kelce was named first-team All-Pro for the fifth time in his career, and he’s shown no signs of slowing down.
Next up is former first-round pick and future Hall of Fame right tackle Lane Johnson. Johnson will be playing in the Super Bowl with a torn groin, but he’s been playing the entire postseason with it and is still dominating. Left tackle Jordan Mailata is one of the biggest steals in recent draft history.
The Eagles took the former rugby player in the sevenh round in 2019, even though Mailata had never played football. Mailata is now one of the best left tackles in the NFL and starting in the Super Bowl.
Left guard Landon Dickerson has mauled defensive linemen all season. Right guard Isaac Seumalo falls between the cracks because of how good the other guys are, but in 1,135 snaps during the regular season, he’s only given up one sack (via PFF).
All five have allowed the Eagles to have one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL while protecting Hurts and allowing him to make plays.
When the confetti is flying, and the Eagles are once again Super Bowl champions, the No. 1 reason will be because the offensive line took over the game.
