Councilman Nicholas O’Rourke to the rescue?

Today, Ogbonna Hagins, President of the Philadelphia Reparations Coalition and Unseated Council President, took center stage at the Philadelphia City Council meeting, delivering a performance that could rival any daytime soap opera.
Hagins called out Councilman Jim Harrity, who had promised before the summer break to introduce crucial legislation for the Coalition.
Fast forward to October, and what do we have? A grand total of nothing! Hagins had to remind Harrity that it’s time to stop playing hide-and-seek with the legislation and start taking action.
In a twist worthy of a political thriller, Khalif Alexander revealed he had a conversation with Councilmember Nicholas O’Rourke, who reportedly wants to step in and take on this cause. O’Rourke’s newfound interest is a welcome change, especially when it seems like he’s the only one willing to step up in this drama.
The Coalition is pushing hard for the establishment of an Office of Freedmen Affairs, a move that they argue is essential for addressing the needs of the American Freedmen community.
While some may roll their eyes at the bureaucratic nature of such an office, Hagins emphasized that it represents a significant step toward acknowledging and rectifying historical injustices.
As he made his passionate plea, Hagins reiterated that this is about collective action, urging those who care about the future of their community to join in this important fight. The Coalition is calling for freedom fighters—people committed to real change and serious about ensuring that the promises made to American Freedmen are honored.
There’s plenty of work ahead, and the Philadelphia Reparations Coalition is ready to lead the charge. If you’re interested in being part of this vital effort, join the Coalition today. Because in the world of city politics, while the drama may entertain, the stakes are far too serious to ignore.
